Bird Facts

~ A Blue Macaw named Charlie is the oldest living bird on record. Charlie is said to have belonged to Winton Churchhill, and is believed to have live 104 years old!

~There are over 350 species of parrots in the world!

~Pygmy Parrots are the smallest parrot species, who average about 8 cm in length!

~A birds tail feathers weigh more than its skeleton

~A bird's beak shape corresponds to the type of diet it eats in the wild.

~The Quaker Parrot is the only species of parrot that builds a nest. The Quakers nests can reach weights greater than 200 lbs.

~The most common bird on the planet is the chicken.

~There are over 350 species of parrots in the world

~ A good number of scientists have theorized that many modern bird species evolved from the dinosaurs, based on similarities in skeletal structure.

~There are over 40 million species of birds living in the U.S.
